Happy April!

Oliver helping me with homework!

Happy April everyone! We’re really in the homestretch now when it comes to classes here at BU. Tomorrow is our last day of classes before we get a couple days off for Easter Break… and let me tell you, I am absolutely thrilled to have some time to unwind before finals start. I just finished my last out of three writing assignments that were due this week: a 9-page paper on Walt Disney’s leadership style on Monday, a 6-page magazine feature on the founder of the Community Foundation today, and another 9-page paper on the cultural effects of Reality TV that’s due tomorrow morning! And what am I doing to celebrate completing all of that writing? EVEN MORE WRITING! But this blog is a fun complement to my other interesting class assignments.

My days have unfortunately been spent doing very little other than preparing for those three writing assignments that were due before I leave for Easter Break. Luckily, I was able to catch the UK/UL game with some friends, and also invite my mom and my Mema up to campus for a special Mother’s event for Phi Mu, though! For these assignments, I made sure not to procrastinate – which I will admit, it can occasionally be a bad habit of mine – but I still felt like I was overwhelmed having three major assignments due within days of each other. I have definitely learned a lot though from doing all of these papers, particularly how to utilize our wonderful library. I seriously have checked out around 20 books in the past two weeks in order to get enough research! What’s funny, though, is that I’ve never actually checked out any books before this semester. The majority of the research I needed was through books as opposed to online articles, so I definitely learned how to read the codes to find the right books! I also had to use those silly little stools  so I could reach the books on the top shelf – with my luck, most of the books I needed were all the way up there!

Anyway, like I said, I’m definitely looking forward to Easter Break. As part of stress relief, Michael and I made a pit stop at Sandy’s Pet Shop to play with some adorable puppies! I always like going there to get my mind off of studying. They also had some bunnies for Easter too which were really cute :) When I get home on Wednesday, I plan on catching up on several of my favorite shows with my mom, hanging out with the rest of my family and playing with my kittens! I’m just excited to not have to do work for a couple of days. I will be getting ready, though, for the Phi Mu Teacher Appreciation Dinner that I’m hosting next week. I need to buy supplies and tie up all of the loose ends! I’m really excited… I’ve never hosted this big of an event! I’m thankful that I have help from my Phi Mu sisters.

April is about to be a crazy and chaotic month… not only is it my birthday month (April 30th! Woot woot!) there are plenty of events and assignments to do before the semester is over, like Relay for Life (4/13,) Scholarship Dinners, Phi Mu Formal, KnightU Freshman Registration, and meetings upon meetings upon meetings!

Let me share with you a quote to keep us all motivated, it’s one of my new favorites:
“This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left behind…let it be something good.”

And enjoy this wonderful song, Some Nights by Fun. Definitely reminds me of any song by Queen… and I’m tempted to have it on repeat for the next hour!

About Marissa

Hi everyone! I’m Marissa, and I’m a junior at Bellarmine University. I am studying Communications with a Business Administration minor and I’m lucky to also take part as a Blogger and the Public Relations chair of Phi Mu! I am the Dan R. Ison Communications Scholarship Recipient, as well as in the Lambda Pi Eta Communications Honor Society. I’m from LaGrange, Kentucky, a small town that's just a short thirty minute drive from campus, but I live on campus during the school year. I love the color purple, things that sparkle, and getting to immerse myself in a good book. Join me as I travel through college life, striving day by day to make this world a better place, and see what it’s like to be a Bellarmine Knight!
