I am currently a junior here at BU. I am studying Communications, with minors in German and Peace Studies. I am from Grove City, Ohio but, since August of 2010 I would have to say I am a Louisvillian. I am always smiling and very outgoing. Meeting new people and getting to know them is probably one of my favorite things in the world. I am just like every other college student, I love hanging out with friends, listening to music, watching movies, reading the occasional book, running around acting a fool sometimes. Life is too short to sit around and be bored, so I am very active on campus, and I love everything I am involved in. I try to live life to the fullest. I'm taking chances and defying gravity.

Knights’ Nation For Life

To be a member of Knights’ Nation. Is to be a Bellarmine Student that wants to always support their fellow students who happen to be athletes. To be on the Knights’ Nation Board means you are one of the figure heads of that organization who help facilitate events that students can empower their athletic friends to win and represent BU well. To be the President of this organization means that you are the key between the BU student section and the BU Administration.

This week I officially became the President of Knights’ Nation. I never would have thought four years ago when I was a Squire this would have happened. I was one of the few freshman who tried to get involved with Knights’ back in 2010. The current President, Kayla told me to apply to be on the board in the fall of my sophomore year. I did,

Knights’ Nation was always fun and I loved being at all the games, not just Basketball but Soccer and Volleyball and Baseball and the rest. Sophomore year, I was on the first every Associate Board, training to be VP of Public Relations some day. Little did I know a few months later that position opened up and they put me in the position. Then at the end of Sophomore year I applied to be Vice President of Knights’. And as follows a few weeks ago, I applied to be President.

In this photo with me are the three reasons, I got involved with Knights’ Nation and stuck with it. From left to right: 2013-14 President Myself, 2011-12 President Katie, 2012-13 President Ben, and 2010-11 President Kayla. These three individuals have helped me grow into the leader I am today. They have also prepared me so well to be the President of Knights’ Nation. I don’t know where I would be today if it weren’t for them.

 

When asked why I applied to be President of Knights’ Nation, my answer was this. To bring students who were never really into sports, to the sporting games. If you would have asked me when I was 16 years old, if I was ever going to be the president of the Athletic Pep Club, I would have called you a liar. Now, I spend some Saturdays at different games all day. This past Saturday, I was at the Softball and Baseball games, kept up with the Tennis games online, and then spent my evening at the Lacrosse games.

It is a huge step being President. And I already can see the trials that are ahead of me, but I look forward to them. I cannot wait to work with my Executive Board to make next year the best year for the Student Section at Bellarmine Ever!

The 2013-2014 Board is going to be amazing. All of the positions are filled with some amazing people with big hearts and even bigger ideas for the organization. I am so excited to work with every one of them. Both the Executive and Associate Boards are finally filled and are ready to get started planning for the fall!! Counting the Days

Spring Break 2013 is over. That only means one thing. Spring is actually right around the corner and I can now start counting the days until finals are over. 52 according to my iPhone app. It’s not that I am in a hurry to leave Bellarmine or anything like that, but I just think Spring Break is such a teaser of everything that is good and joyful. Doing absolutely nothing and acting like I have no cares in the world.

Someone yesterday asked me what I did over my Spring Break. I told them I was rather productive. I went to a conference in Indianapolis, IN. Then upon my return I decided to do nothing for the rest of the week. So I did nothing. I watched two seasons of One Tree Hill, caught up on my current TV shows: The Vampire Diaries and Once Upon a Time, and I started watching The Walking Dead. On top of all that, I wrote two papers. So, yes, I would say I was extremely productive.I didn’t leave my house for three days and saw no civilization, and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Now that Spring Break is over, it is the home stretch. I can smell summer vacation, I can imagine all of the Derby outfit, and feel the warm sun. 52 days left in this school year then I am a senior!?!?!? What? Where did the time go. 52 days and that is not counting weekends, Easter Break, and the chance we go to and do well in the NCAA Tournament. So there are a few things that are helping me hold on to hope.

Half Way Point

So we are half way through the semester?

It is such a nice feeling to be almost done. This has just been a really tough semester. So today rather than being productive, I really just needed to relax and do something that was not school related at all.

So I got the chance to sleep in until 1:30 in the after noon. Then I decided to do my laundry and watch One Tree Hill. I started season 8 today. It is exactly what I needed. Just a chance to be distracted from everything. 

You know what I am saying. When you have one of those shows where it just makes everything ok, like school is nothing to worry about, there is no work in your mind, and there is nothing but One Tree Hill! I see where my night is going to finish. I might end up watching the whole season tonight. I have always wanted to have the chance to finish the show. But school has always been more important. I have nothing really stressful this week, so why not spend it watching One Tree Hill.

Other than that life is life. It goes on day by day, and there is nothing we can do about it but be positive. There are two Bible versus that have been getting me through this semester.

First Day of Classes

WHOA!!! Where did Christmas Break go? It was great but it is long gone. Here is to a new semester. Grades weren’t so hot last semester so my goal is to get a 4.0 this semester. Classes seem like they are going to be fun this semester.

To make the first day of classes even better, my first class got cancelled. Best first day of school ever!!!! And there are home basketball games tonight!!! Can’t wait to watch the girls and guys open up the GLVC conference!!!

Here is to a new semester!! 2013 here we come!!

Tatum and I last night! :)

I would like wish a Happy Birthday to my best friend at Bellarmine University. Tatum Daugherty is now 21. I hope she had a blast last night! And does fantastic on her finals this upcoming week. I do not know where I would be without her.

Studying For Finals?

So today while I was studying for my finals and writing papers due this week. One of my best friends asked me to go to the zoo today. Without thinking about what the consequences I agreed and went to the zoo. Ann Marie, Amanda, and I had a blast at the Zoo. This was my first time going to the Louisville Zoo. Not really sure why I have not ever been to the zoo here and I have lived here for two and a half years. But it was so much fun.

We went at the perfect time. The animals were being fed, the zoo was not packed at all, and it wasn’t too hot or too cold. While there we saw so many cool animals. So instead of just talking about it, I want to put as many up as I can to show you all.

The King of Pride Rock himself. This was the best part. The lions were roaring and being so vocal. I have never seen something like it before. It kinda made my want to watch the Lion King.

And that is how I spend my Sunday afternoon during finals week. I cannot believe that I have still not really started to crack down and get to studying for tomorrow or the rest of the week. But this are the moments that I am going to remember when I have graduated. Yes, I want to do well on my exams, but when it comes to five years from now, the grade I have on my finals isn’t going to be what matters. It will be the time spent with the people that mean the world to me. I had such a great day.

To end this blog I would like to say good luck to any college students studying for finals. Happy Hanukkah to anyone who is celebrating the first day of Hanukkah today.

Christmas Time is Here!!! :)

Where did the semester go. I have had such a long semester taking 18 hours and working two jobs and losing so much time that I could have been here posting. I had to take a step back today and see what was important. And it isn’t spending all of this time stressing out it is appreciating what I have. I know I am a week late, but I am just now seeing what I am thankful for. And I saw it as I was walking home from school today.

This is what it is all about during this time. Sitting back and enjoying the season, the people, and the lives we live. No from here on out I just need to keep focus on the important things while being able to do the things that aren’t as fun. There is only one full week of classes left. Then next week three days of classes, Study day. And then finals begin. Christmas break is just around the corner!!!

The Christmas Tree in the University Dining Hall tonight at the Christmas Tree Lightening!!! So many people coming together to prepare for the holidays!

One thing that really help me get through the day and is a Bellarmine tradition is our annual Christmas Tree Lightening Ceremony. Tonight Bellarmine University along with the Student Government Association put on this event. It was a time for the community and for Bellarmine to come together and begin celebrating this wondrous season.

There was so much going on in UDH. From crafts for children to pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Claus and delicious food to eat.  It was a fantastic night!

I want to apologize, I went to blog today and realized that I hadn’t sent this blog in like two weeks ago when I began writing it. I hope everyone’s Christmas season has started off going well.

No way is it midterm time at all?? I cannot believe the semester is going by so fast. I have been so busy with everything from activities, school, and my new internship.

One thing I love about Bellarmine University is how amazingly helpful they are. Last post I mentioned I had an interview for an internship. Well I didn’t want to jinx it then, but I got the internship!!

I am currently working as a Wish Granter Intern with the Make a Wish Foundation of Louisville. I am loving every bit of working there. The people that I work with are such nice people. And it is great experience for any job outside of college. I am doing everything from communications to seeing how the organization works as a whole.I really am looking forward to continuing working their throughout the semester and even hopefully next semester. And it is all thanks to the Career Development Office here at BU. They are amazing at giving our students every opportunity that they can possibly give.

Other than that Halloween is coming up and I am getting so excited for Ball on the Belle!! This is our Costume Dance Party on the Belle of Louisville sponsored by the Bellarmine Activities Council every year. I still don’t have a costume…and it is in 15 days. I have no have idea what I am going to wear. My freshman year I went as Ron Weasley, last year I went as Pikachu. I have to top both of those. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Growing Up

Growing up is something that a lot of people struggle with, I know I do. I cannot believe that I am a junior in college already. It seems like only yesterday, I was starting high school as that little awkward ginger kid. But now as I am typing this, I am dressed up in a suit and ready for the interview of a life time.

Being a Bellarmine University student I feel extremely prepared, but that doesn’t get rid of the butterflies in my stomach. I feel like I am walking onto campus for my Crossroads experiences as a freshman all over again. But instead, I have an interview with the Make A Wish Foundation today. This is like the internship of a life time. After the summer that I have had, all I want to do is find a way that I can help people and serve in a non-profit after college, and this is some great experience for that and later in life.

Another thing that I has been going on is some struggles back home. I don’t get homesick easily. I live here in Louisville, I love it here. But it has just been one of those weeks where I really want to drive home. I would have this weekend, but being as active as I am in the Bellarmine community, I was unable too. I chose to be active though, so it was my choice.

This weekend at BU was awesome though, from sports games, to Knights’ Fest and just hanging around the house. This week was huge in Bellarmine sports, there were away games and home games all day every day! Soccer had some tough games to play, Field Hockey brought home some wins, and Volleyball had a good weekend with a couple wins and some tough games. On top of that there was Knights’ Fest put on by Knights’ Nation (our pep club) and BAC. There were t-shirts being given out, tons of cake, other food, music and games. It was a blast!! Then every night this weekend, I just sat around my house with some friends and watched some Harry Potter. (can’t go wrong there)

Let’s see what this week has in store for me.
