Moving through Milestones

“Walk with the dreamers, the believers, the courageous, the cheerful, the planners, the doers, the successful people with their heads in the clouds and their feet on the ground.”

It has been quite a while since my last blog post. So much has happened in such a short time frame, which has left me little to no time to write! Since my last post, I completed my junior year of college with another semester of all A’s, turned 21 during finals week, moved into a house with two of my girlfriends, drove 16 hours to Marco Island, FL for a week, and ended an incredibly enriching experience to begin another new and exciting chapter of my life.

These milestone happenings deserve their own separate posts, but for the sake of time and interest, I’ll condense them for you in some short anecdotes and pictures.

21st Birthday!

21st Birthday

21st Birthday

My last day at Community Foundation of Louisville: It was tough not to shed some tears upon leaving one of the most enriching and rewarding experiences I’ve ever had. I am so thankful to have gained invaluable experience, unforgettable memories, and to simply have been a part of the Community Foundation of Louisville family. I had been there since last February and loved every minute being their first intern. I’m very happy that one of my Bellarmine friends, Alex, is the next intern and I have the utmost faith in her, knowing she will have a great time! The CFL crew even threw me a farewell party, where I was given a gorgeous and stylish green briefcase as a parting gift, and I gave my supervisor, Anne, and the CEO, Susan, gifts that I hand-painted for them. The quote that I used struck a chord with me in that I was truly surrounded by dreamers, believers, and all of the other categories listed in the quote, and I was truly going to miss working with such a talented and supportive team. They have helped me grow so much in the past almost year and a half and I can’t thank them enough. Thank you again, Anne and the rest of the crew at CFL, for such an amazing first internship.InternshipInternship Internship Internship

Marco Island: drove 16 hours one way to spend a couple days in Paradise with Michael and some of our friends, before starting my next internship! Marco Island

Beginning at Brown-Forman: I was honored to accept an internship position with Brown-Forman after going through a very competitive application process for the past couple of months. 165+ candidates applied for around 25 positions within the corporation and I am so happy that I was chosen. I just started this past Monday (May 20) and have thoroughly enjoyed my first week. I have been assigned to work with the Digital Marketing team for the brands Southern Comfort and TUACA and it’s still all so surreal to me that I’m even working there. I have never been a part of anything at such a large scale as Brown-Forman or the Modern Liqueurs brands and I’m in awe to be surrounded by and to learn from so many talented professionals. After taking a Marketing class this past semester, it’s amazing to see what I’ve learned be put into action. I’m eager to learn from the Digital Marketing team and have a great time making new experiences and meeting new people. They have been so welcoming from the start and I know we are going to have a great time! Brown-Forman Brown-Forman Brown-Forman

I hope that was semi-condensed. I’ll be sure to post more frequently this summer, now that things have relaxed a bit!

Song of the day: Get Lucky by Daft Punk and Pharrell. It brings me back to Earth Wind and Fire, with a touch of Daft Punk’s hit Harder Better Faster Stronger from a couple years ago. Enjoy the jam!

Positivity is Key

Aside

This post is dedicated to my friends that are struggling with something in their lives. Whether it be; relationship issues, thinking about your future, deciding what to do in regards to said future, stress on different levels, and to the friends that no matter the problem are able to stay positive this is for you my friends.

I,at least in my mind, do not claim to be the best person in the world. I make mistakes and I don’t always make the correct decision. At the end of the day I try to learn from the bad I make. I don’t complain about my life, or others, I just try to make my life better. The ups and downs of life happen for a multitude of different reasons. My belief is that people’s decisions determine their own prosperity, or lack there of.

But all these words about myself and what I believe mean something, right? All these words describe my outlook on life, an outlook that is continuously positive. My world view is that positivity is key. If you stay positive, you will find that all the boulders thrown your way are just balls of snow. A snowball stings, yes, but small amount of pain is doesn’t matter when you come to realize that it’s all a part of a bigger game of fun and happiness.

So to my friends that are struggling with their different stressors I say stay strong. Don’t let your troubles bring you down or torment you. Whatever the problem, just think about your decision and you will be just fine. But at the same time not everything can be done by yourself so, if you have a friend like myself that looks at the world in a brighter view then take advantage of them and talk to them because those types of people are usually always willing to listen. But if you don’t have one of those types of people in your life then look to those that you look up to, the people who you call mentor. Stress can be good sometimes but I see no real reason for it.

To all my friends that this is dedicated to, any thing is possible if you just believe. Have fun and enjoy life just remember…

Positivity is key.

Pinkie Promises to Myself

“When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.”

-Ansel Adams

It seems a bit late to start writing out New Year resolution but better now then never. I’m one of those people who needs to write things down, because then its easier for me to accomplish the tasks in mind. Last week I arrived back from London, carrying on my third winter holiday away from home and family. Over the 9 hour flight I began to think about what I hope to gain from this upcoming year and how many things will change, mainly no longer being a “student”. My past 3 and 1/2 years of Bellarmine have brought me to this point where I will go out into the world, and apply everything that I have learned. I hope my lessons, relationships, and goals will be met and shared with great intensity in my future endeavors. Cheers to taking things on, one step at a time.

My (ever-changing) list of things to accomplish

1. Take advantage of the availability of the SURF

2. Become a master of the Adobe Creative Suite

3. Start my own website

4. Complete one photo project a week

5. Earn my English teaching certification

6. Travel, travel, travel

Here are a few pictures from the holidays

Stress Relief During Finals

I must admit that this has been the toughest semester for me so far. It seems like it’s been one challenging task after another. Luckily, this constant sprint is almost over and we will all soon be able to relax! To help you get through the next couple days, here are some of my favorite ways to de-stress during finals!

Puppy Love

1. Get some puppy love. Sandy’s Pet Shop off Poplar Level Rd always has a great selection of animals to go check out and play with. The employees are very nice and friendly too and understand that sometimes us college students just need some puppy love. You can always check out their website and see what puppies they have there, and they normally have cats, rabbits, and other furry friends too! I’m sad that Bellarmine isn’t able to do their “Canine Exam Proctors” like they have the past couple semesters, but I hope they’ll be able to this spring!

Joe Creason Park (As seen on Joe Creason Park’s Flickr)

2. EXERCISE! While the weather is still fairly mild, Joe Creason Park is a great place to go get some fresh air. Whether it’s doing a round of ultimate frisbee with your friends, walking your dog, or taking on the challenging hills, exercise is a great way to de-stress. Also, we can’t forget our wonderful SuRF. Get your warm-up in by walking to the SuRF from your dorm room, then go enjoy all of their great facilities.

Happy Holidays from Phi Mu!

3. Hang out with friends. Don’t forget we’re all in the same boat here! Though it seems like we’ve become antisocial as we bury our nose in studying, it’s nice to get to see our friends and relax. Phi Mu just had our annual Tacky Sweater Christmas Party and it was a great study break and a fun time to just be silly with my closest friends.

And, to wrap things up, here’s one of my favorite study tips: did you know that our brains recognize the highlighter colors yellow and green the best, and actually pass over the colors pink and orange? It helps to color code our study guides, highlighting different concepts with different colors. I know it looks a little weird, but I personally highlight terms in yellow, with their supporting information in green. It has helped me break up my terms so studying isn’t as overwhelming.

What are some of your favorite de-stressers? Have any special study tips? Leave them in a comment!

Song of the day is Don’t Stop The Party by Pitbull. Make time to have some fun and dance during studying! :)

Fun with Friends and Animals

As a previous post stated I did a lot of studying during my fall break, but I was also able to find the time to hang out with a few of my fantastic lady friends! Olivia, Shelby, Gretchen, Eveyln, and I took an awesome trip to the Louisville Zoo.

Olive, Sheldy, G. Luss, and I

After we arrived things took a turn for the even more awesome. The weather was beautiful and the animals were even more beautiful. Not to mention I was surrounded by 4 beautiful women for like three hours, who could ask for more! The afternoon never had a downside other than a few animals that weren’t on display. The four, soon turned five, of us had a blast just walking around, catching up on the semester, and enjoying the cool creatures at the zoo. We all were without a doubt big kids. The good times never stopped and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Sheldy, Olive, G. Luss

What made this zoo excursion even better was the fact that I hadn’t been to the Louisville zoo in like 12 years. So being able to see all the new attractions and animal habitats was spectacular. The added effect of the zoo decorating for Halloween made the adventure that much more fun.

Me and my new Bestie :)

As it was time for me to take my leave I couldn’t help but think to myself how glad and blessed I was to have friends like these ladies and many other friends just like them. All of us, except Evelyn, are seniors at Bellarmine and I rarely get to see them so to be able to spend this time together is something that I will always cherish. So for those out there in their last year, whether high school or college, make the most out of moments like the one I had. Tomorrow is another day and the present is what matters and you won’t get another day just like it again.

A couple great songs for the particular moment

And Now We Wait…

I AM FOREVER DONE WITH THE LSAT! After months of hard work and studying, I am finally free of the LSAT.  I cannot explain how amazing it feels to say that. Now I just need to wait until October 31st to get my scores back.

The best thing about the entire LSAT experience was how supportive my family and friends were.  They put up with my craziness and calmed me down every time I had a freak out. I could not ask for a better support system. ON TOP OF THAT, I was flooded with texts, emails and Facebook posts before the exam, wishing me luck, AND after the exam, asking how it went. I am very blessed to have so many kind and caring people in my life.

That’s all for now. Until next time!

Red River GorgeOUS

Recipe for The Perfect Hiking Trip

Ingredients needed:

  • A car
  • Good friends
  • Place to stay (cabin, tent, the stars over your head, etc)
  • Supplies for food
  • and a solid pair of shoes

Directions:

  1. Drive 2 1/2 hours from Louisville through Lexington and map out your spot within the park. Red River Gorge is a canyon system with beautiful hiking trails, photo spots, and dense lush forests.
  2. Stop by the local grocery store like Kroger before you go because the options become much more limited once your right outside the park. Unless your really into overpriced gas station selections. Nah
  3. Either pay for a park pass to camp out within designated camping spots or you could rent a cabin for 10 people. We like nature. But we also like hot tubs…
  4. Start out with some easy hikes. I recommend the Natural Bridge because not only is it about 2 miles roundtrip but the view is incredible. Just imagine what it’ll look like when the leaves start changing those warm colors of fall red and orange.
  5. BRING YOUR CAMERA

Spending the weekend at the Gorge with Jen and friends from Cincinnati was just the breath of fresh air I needed.

Kentucky has a great park system.

Take advantage of it!

Chillin, Finals, the Sweet Smell of Summer!

I know it is that time of the year to be stressing out and worrying about papers and exams and presentations. But I have realized the importance of just taking a break from all of that and hanging out with some friends doing the random stuff. For example last week, my friends, Meghan and Jim, and I literally just sat in Meghan’s room and watched TV until 4:00am. We didn’t do anything fun, we weren’t watching anything special. We just sat there watched TV and had a long life chat. And I know that the next day I was so tired, and I complained about getting three hours of sleep, but it was so worth it. Those are the nights you live for in college. When I am older and I look back, yeah I am going to be so pumped about having a degree from Bellarmine University, but I am not going to remember what I got in my Human Health and Disease class. I am going to remember the night that Meghan, Jim and I just sat there an talked and enjoyed life together. It was so much fun and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I wish there were more days for nights like those, where we could just sit there enjoy each others company and do absolutely nothing. But with there only being 21 days left until the summer (not that I am counting) there is so much to do in such little time. This is crunch time, get the last round of assignments done before finals week. But it is all good. This is what college is for, to learn something every once in a while. With such little time left though it is so hard to get my mind in gear. I can see summer vacation. I can see the Kentucky Derby Festival. It is so hard to focus. But I know I can do it. I just have to really put my mind to it.I cannot believe there is such little time left in the semester.

This is such a bittersweet moment. With there being such little time left, I just keep thinking about all of the awesome things that are coming up in my life. Over the summer I will be working for Group Mission Trips. I will be traveling around the country putting on service trips for high schoolers. It will be such an awesome experience. Then in the fall, instead of returning to Bellarmine University with all of my friends, I will be studying abroad at a school in Switzerland!!! I am so excited for the opportunity to study at a foreign school and live in a country where I can grow and learn so much.

Well I have rambled on enough for today. Sorry I will start posting more often so that I don’t have long posts like these past ones have been anymore.

Happy Spring Everyone!
